ingrowing
toenails
This condition arises
when a shoulder of the nail digs into the flesh at the
sides of the nail causing irritation, pain and possible
infection. The nail starts to become tender to any pressure.
The main causes are excessive sweating, a particular
style of walking, poor footwear, poor toe or nail structure,
direct injury and incorrect nail cutting. Treatment should
be sought quickly in order for it to be effective.
With recurrent ingrowing
toenails, we recommend that the side of the nail, nail
bed and root are removed under local anaesthetic. This
operation has a good cosmetic effect, is painless and
the problem is unlikely to recur. Operations are carried
out in the clinic.
